Moving Along St. Maarten Yacht Club / Buccanneer Beach Bar

Happy Earth Day! April 22, 2018

The island is certainly progressing. It is amazing to be here and see everything taking place. Hurricane season will be upon us all too soon and I for one have been quite fretful that the house/roof is not going to be secure in time. However, in the last week the roofers have come by and things are starting to happen. Yippee, in our case. The new frontage to the house will not be rebuilt just yet. I sincerely hope this will take place this year – but……..

Sadly, there are still far too many homes and businesses that have not yet started to rebuild for all sorts of reasons most seemingly centered around insurance!

In the meantime, various functions are taking place. Lots of fundraising and partying is going on. The crowds that turn out for these events are so full of joie de vivre, it is just wonderful. Carnival is in full swing these upcoming days too. We plan to visit the Village for lunch soon, this is always a fun thing to do.

This Saturday there were several events to attend – as the designated driver to a preplanned function I can only mention the two I managed to be at briefly.

Buccaneer Beach Bar celebrated Earth Day

Bucanneer Beach Bar celebrated a day early by planting some wonderful palm trees and having a bit of a bash (naturally!) Bucanneer Beach Bar is a favourite family place especially on a Friday night- there is a large pub, and great grub! There are large fireballs set right on KimSha beach that give a wonderful ambiance on the ocean-lapped shore where the young, and not so young, run off their extra steam as the sun sets and the adults do a bit of adulting. Sint Maarten Yacht Club

The St. Maarten Yacht Club (here) had an awesome fundraising event on Saturday afternoon/evening. Some good sailing yarns were told no-doubt as the fleet had enjoyed a small regatta in the afternoon before returning to the newly built dock to party-hearty! Palm trees had been planted, ribbon cutting took place, raffle tickets bought and amazing prizes won; the crowd was very happy.

The St. Maarten Yacht Club is a wonderful cornerstone to life on this island! Cheers.

Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs had a “dinner amicale” on Saturday evening at Mario Bistrot in Porto Cupecoy. (you can read the review shortly) This active gourmet club is springing back into action on island after the hurricane. You can read about La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1248, (here) and (here). Anyone who enjoys culinary delights, good wine pairing and great friendship will thoroughly enjoy the fellowship as a member of this society.
