Sometimes it is the unexpected that turns out to be the very best.
How many times have we driven past this spot on the corner of the turn off to Happy Bay? Plenty times and each time we have wondered just what Cool Heures was all about. A tiny shack along the roadside hidden by shrubs and next to a laundry???! Yet for all our curiosity we never did actually stop and go in.
Then after Irma the laundry wasnt there – was it ? The location of this wee restaurant is on a corner so unless one is turning to Happy/Friars Bay it is all too easy to drive past.
A friend and I stopped in one lunch and boy what a surprise this turned out to be. An excellent, excellent meal at a reasonable price. The chef is from Lyon, her husband serves at the tables.
Clean and neat, if rather noisy from the traffic that whizzes by just the otherside of the creeper fence, the food and price is so good that the traffic is really not too much of a problem at all.
The place filled up very quickly. We put in our order and enjoyed the most heavenly food.
Menu
This garlic shrimp was excellent. Tiny, tiny tomato-like fruits in the sauce made for a very interesting flavour. These turned out to be a type of pickled pepper. Just outstandingly delicious.
The duck parmentier was so very good and not a small portion by anymeans. The side salad was crisp and fresh.
We shared a fantastic raspberry tiramisu with crisp choux puffs and heavenly dark chocolate cookies on the side. Truely a magnificent ending to a quick “bite for lunch.”
Do yourselves a favour, stop off and try this wee place. We are sure you will enjoy the simplicity of the place and rave over the tasty dishes.
