Sale & Pepe

Yes, we did!

We went for a wonderful early supper at Sale & Pepe after seeing posts of octopus.

I can’t resist.

We were there as the darkness fell and got a table inside – it was as chilly inside as outside – the Caribbean does have a “chilly” season!!!

We had the wee sprogs with us – boy, do two-year-old boys create chaos! Six-year old’s settle down quite nicely, they draw if they are provided with something to do (or they read their iPad, if allowed) – but young boys??? All he wanted to do was eat chocolate mousse and sit in the gorilla’s arms. There is a huge gorilla statue outside in the car park.

Anyway, us adults were served our rose wine pretty promptly. I think they knew we wanted to be out of there before the witching hour descended. The delicious bread, chili sauce and olive oil/vinegar dip were served, and we fell on it as did the wee sprogs. Though the lad was not impressed with the oil/balsamic on his bread, not at all!

The order for the sprogs was a lasagne, thick with cheese, melt-in-the-mouth kinda lasagne which us adults wanted to devour.

We shared a heavenly plate of fresh sushi grade tuna, wahoo mixed with
home dried tomatoes and cucumber and a perky sliced of redwine braised pear.

This surpising combination but was simple and fresh in flavour. The third of the trilogy was fresh sushi grade salmon. Honestly, how to resist not finishing it off one’self when one is sharing.

The mains were a lovely fresh snapper and veg. I don’t usually go for snapper or stew type fish dishes at Sale & Pepe because I go for ……..

………octopus. This time I asked if the chef could do me something special with ink pasta and octopus and this is what was served to me!!!

This delightful dish had lots of oil and garlic in the pasta, the pasta was topped with the incredible red shrimps that Chef David brings in from Sicily. These shrimp are flash frozen once caught from the Mediterrenean waters. The shrimp were “cooked” in the hot pasta. The burst of sea flavour from the “caviar” offset the dish beautifully BUT the best was the breaded octopus! As tender as can be, crispy and flavoursome, nothing could be better.

Fortunately I did not have to share this dish but as you can see the trilogy was shared between more than two of us!

Then more of the family and friends started to arrive, we had quite a lovely little party going this particular evening.

Gnocci with a strong tomato sauce and mushroom risotto were their orders.

The risotto at Sale & Pepe are always good – if it is my order I ask for it not to be al dente, I prefer a soft risotto. In this case it was perfectly al dente for the others.

Finally we had a lemon flavoured cookie and the chocolate mousse. Oh and more wine of course.

By this stage we needed to finish up our evening as the wee sprogs were getting more excited as more family and friends came by.

So we bid adieu and Merry Christmas – looking forward to more delightful meals at Sale & Pepe in the New Year!
