Scratching off the Bucket List

Good Life, Good food, Good drink, Good places, Good people!

Doing what I haven’t done before!

Irma (the hurricane) is to blame!

Doing what I haven’t done before I entered a chilli cookoff at The Yacht Club. I am not a chilli aficionado but coerced into the occasion I decided, after much deliberation, to do something outside the box. I made a chilli that I put together from various recipes and followed my taste buds – and it won! I am so chuffed. It was a Mexican Mole Chilli. WOW! So much fun.

Some chillis in the cookoff –

Stand in Divi Resort

I make chutneys, one of which follows an old family recipe.
I am also painting again.
Doing what I haven’t done before, I have the chutneys and paintings at a wee stand at Divi Resort on Monday evenings. Such fun
Some of my paintings I have turned into cards. (Other paintings I have printed on to photo paper and onto canvas.)
The bottles of chutney at the stand are Apricot/Peach, Mango/Apple and Tomato/Chili. Both chutneys are great to have as snacks for happy hour. Try them on crackers with cheese (like Cheddar or Old Amsterdam) or spread it on bread, add a slice of cheese, top with another slice of bread and make a grilled cheese toasty. The chutneys can, of course, be eaten with any cooked dish, Indian, Middle Eastern, BBQ and just because. They make great gifts to take back home too.

Vegan Fest – Belair

This weekend I took a stand at the Vegan Fest. My chutneys went down well, and I sold out (OK, I did not have a huge number of bottles, I was a bit unnerved by it all, but folk had tasters and all went.) I also had jars of preserved lemons. It really was great fun, all in all.

The little plate I served the crackers on is a glass plate made by a friend, norm’s glass, it is a beautiful plate! They make gorgeous gifts. (Unique, handcrafted, fused glass inspired by St Maarten and the wonderful people met here. You can order a custom made piece with a logo, name, business, or a certain color at sxmnorm@yahoo.com)

The Fest was fantastic, well run and amazing people both in the organization and the attendees.

With lectures; stands of eco and vegan things; two amazing massage/physio’s who “treated” some of the Festival goers; fantabulous vegan food; wonderful vegan wine which I have to say the Rose was really quite something; and a vegan burger cookoff (no, I did not enter,) and a chef friend won. Chef Ernesto is the new chef at 3 Amigos. He is good; menu changes are taking place – worth trying it out if you are in the Maho area.

I intended taking pictures as the fest got busier – but then I also got busy. These pics were taken as the crowds started arriving.

Some of the crowd: Listening to the lectures and where the food stands were set up.

This is Lisa, we worked together for years but she is following her heart and has become a yoga teacher!

Some of the food stands – there were far more stands but I did not get to take pictures.

Fruit juices, stuffed arepas, curries, samosas, cakes, pies, salads, and some yummy muffins, chocie squares and ginger biscuits. All vegan of course.

Fit Foods had a stand – they truly do have a stunning lunch menu everyday – you can find them (here)

And then there was the Happy Wine – organic and Vegan. As I mentioned the Rose was really good. You can find them (here)
