I Love SXM Beach Bar

Finding a gem called I Love SXM Beach Bar.

I love St. Maarten / St. Martin  for the diversity it offers re the foodie scene.

Sometimes, as it happens in many places around the globe, you head on out to an eatery that you have heard rave reviews about and you are sorely disappointed. (If that happens to me, rest assured, I will not mention the place out loud.)

Sometimes you go to the recommended eatery and are so blown away by everything you experience that you just want to sing from the tree tops. This happened to me recently.

I Love SXM Beach Bar

An experience that I can truly recommend you try, so you too can say “I Love SXM Beach Bar.”

My friends and I made a date for a quick lunch between meetings and collecting children from school. Somewhere in Philipsburg that had easy parking, was a relaxed place and had to have good food. We decided to go to I Love as it is newish on the scene. WoW! So glad we did.

This is a beach bar, simply that. Built attached to a beachfront building with a view of the gorgeous Great Bay waters stretching out either side and to the horizon, the unpretentious restaurant has a long, well stocked bar down one side. Window openings let through the breeze and an awning covers the roof. The vibe is cool, inviting one to step inside.

My friend arrived and in double quick time we made our choice, placed our order and got down to serious business of chatting.

The service was quick, the food arrived beautifully plated and so did our drinks. We were totally blown away by how good, tasty, and fresh looking everything was.

I have to show you these colours of the Caribbean again. Mojito Time…….Yoooohooooo!!

The Tapas Menu of little bites was intriguing.

We ordered appertisers we had not had anywhere before. Crispy Plaintain Bites  came four to a plate. One can order half and half which is what we did – half pulled chicken and coleslaw and half grilled shrimp with guacamole. These were simply out of this world. It is all one really needs for a light lunch but perhaps in triplicate because they are sooo good!

We also ordered something we had not had before. Now I was a bit sceptical about this dish because similar bites elsewhere are rather dried out balls of breadcrumbs but these were quite the opposite. Fresh lobster popcorn balls. This is my desert island last meal wish – Lobster Popcorn Balls – served in a lobster tail!

But hang on, I think that I need a second last meal wish on that desert island and for me the choice would be the highly recommended I Love SXM Burger. This burger has everything you could wish for and more besides. Cooked as you like it in a fairly tasty bun (I will say here that I am not a burger lover generally – it is not just that the meat is often a lump of ?? but that the bun is a lump dough)   The bun on I Love’s burger is fabulous. We shared everything, my friend and I and I am glad we made that discision because the serving portions are more than adequate.

Look at this burger – shrimp, cheese, bacon, salads, onion and perfect meat served on a very good bun – yum!

To finish off this delightful and sneaky lunch (away from the maddening crowd) we had wonderful mojitos – it topped off the lunch perfectly.

I Love SXM Beach Bar (here) is highly recommended and with-in walking distance from the harbour. There is parking at Bobby’s Marina or in town and of course right there nearby.
